From the beginning, we envisioned the site as a clearinghouse of how professional truck drivers from around the world save money -- in order to help each other save money. We have worked diligently to teach truckers ways to save money -- as well as provide a heads-up about what will cost you more as a professional truck driver. Some of our readers have contributed tips and reviews -- and we're grateful for every single one. But we know that there is a wealth of information about saving money in trucking that we don't know. That's why we need your help! The year 2015 is going to focus on your money saving tips for truckers. Just imagine how the entire worldwide trucking community could benefit if every trucker contributed just one money saving tip or review on our site. Prevent This! On December 1 through our Truckers' Savings Blog, we posted an article about how a snowstorm in the Buffalo, New York area stranded a Green Bay trucker for 3 days. The article stated that the trucker was "stranded on a remote New York highway in a snowstorm, crammed into the cab of an immobilized semi with three other guys, with nothing to eat and only melted snow to drink." This was totally preventable. During our first winter driving season, we faced The Blizzard of 1993 that covered much of the southeastern USA. We had to park our truck for the better part of three days. The power was out at the truck stop where we parked, so no restaurant meals could be served. Only what was on the shelves and in the refrigerated cases could be purchased, but those things sold out quickly. (Upon reflection, without power, no purchases could be made with credit or debit cards -- only cash.) The important takeaway was to always be prepared for a shutdown in your truck. Have extra food with you that can be easily prepared and will store well. It doesn't have to be fancy. You'd be amazed at how good simple provisions can taste when the only other option is none.
