Prevent This!A December 10 article stated, "Three crashes in the last week, involving 18-wheelers, on I-10 have caused many headaches for drivers." One crash was fatal and one closed I-10 "between Baton Rouge and Lafayette for 12 hours". The crashes had evidently either been on or near the Atchafalaya basin bridge, which one truck driver said "is always an intimidating stretch of road" -- possibly because there "no avenue of escape". Every mile of every trip that a professional truck driver takes can present its own challenges. Practice the Smith System and drive defensively. Do not follow too closely. When necessary, slow down. Earn More, Save MoreDid you catch the implication from the article that was cited under "Prevent This!" above? It stated that one accident had "closed the interstate between Baton Rouge and Lafayette for 12 hours." If you had been driving on the side of I-10 behind where that accident took place, had no way to exit off and you're paid by the mile, guess what? Yep, you just lost the equivalent of a day's pay. Things like this happen regularly in the life of a professional truck driver. It may not be this extreme, but you never know when situations like this can happen to you, such as when you're sick or injured and can't drive. If that were to happen to you, what would you do, especially if you're the sole or primary breadwinner for your family? There is a better way to earn money.
