Prevent This!Again this month, perhaps the title of this section should be "Prevent These!" because we have two events from which to learn. On February 10, an article reported that a trucker driving in the Clam Lake Township, Michigan, area "was exiting the highway and the crew had posted signs warning drivers of the work". The driver "crashed into a road crew", killed one worker and injured another. He was charged with "reckless driving causing death". This was totally preventable. Work zones signs are purposely designed to be high visibility and easily seen. The trucker should have heeded the signs and slowed down before exiting. There is never any reason to strike, injure or kill a road crew member. This sort of accident is the reason why some states charge big fines for injuring these workers. Truckers who haul freight that needs to be secured before moving, check out the February 10 article about a trucker who is facing charges. Not only did a "large piece of metal debris" fly off his rig -- which ended up striking a passenger vehicle and "injuring three people" -- but he "allegedly kept right on driving" after the accident! He was charged with:

When a weather system dumps a large amount of snow and/or ice in a region, traveling can become dangerous or impossible. It is true that no load is worth your life, but as the old saying goes, "When the wheels aren't turning, you're not earning." During our team driving days, we (Mike and Vicki Simons) had to shut down numerous times because of winter weather. Even in the "deep south" of Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina, we've encountered severe weather which prompted us to stop and park rather than keep going. If the weather is really, really bad, some roads or exits may be closed. Instead of just sitting and waiting it out with nothing productive to do, truckers have the option to earn a second income from the cabs of their trucks. We project that within the next two weeks, Vicki Simons's Second Income for Truckers E-Course will become available. Be watching for it!
