Prevent This!Since publishing our last email newsletter, there have been at least two articles -- http://bit.ly/24AiI1y and http://bit.ly/25Og8sR -- about truckers who were either unable to stop in time or claimed brake failure as the reason for a truck crash. The mechanic quoted in the second article said, "There is a possibility his brakes failed, but it is extremely difficult". Professional truck drivers are required to do pre-trip inspections on their trucks before driving. They are the ones who are tasked with making sure that their vehicles are safe and legal to drive.
According to Distraction.gov, "Distracted driving is any activity that could divert a person's attention away from the primary task of driving. All distractions endanger driver, passenger, and bystander safety." Also according to Distraction.gov, "In 2014, 3,179 people were killed, and 431,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers." Please feel free to review:

Although unions have their own individual issues, consider that there are other types of investments that folks can make during their working years that may not generate sufficient income to meet one's needs during retirement. Most folks, including truck drivers, trade their time for money. There are options for earning a second income as a trucker during one's off-duty hours. In the USA, we are now officially in the summer driving months. Many people will have their minds on vacation and not on driving. Watch for people swerving and veering from their lanes of travel. Watch for people making sudden lane changes. You may want to consider getting a truck cam to protect yourself in the event of an incident or accident.
