From July 15 through October 12, we conducted 90 days in a row of Facebook Live broadcasts through the TruckDriversMoneySavingTips Facebook fan page.
(Disclaimer: We had an Internet -- and hence a WiFi -- outage that prevented us from broadcasting one night, but Vicki did two broadcasts the next night to make up for the missing one.)

The list of broadcasts made since the batch we listed in our last email newsletter is below.

We plan to continue doing Facebook Live broadcasts, just not as often.

Simply like our page and turn on notifications to connect with us. We'd love to hear from you!

  • Have You Installed the Truckers Savings App?

Our "new" Truckers Savings App is listed in the Google Play Store.

If you had our old app installed on your Smartphone, please uninstall it and install the new app.

We would appreciate your feedback about how useful our new app is to you as well as what you would like to see added.

Note: We are looking for someone who can help us with developing the app for "i" devices.

Prevent This!

In this video (which can be seen on Facebook even if you aren't logged in), the driver of a KLLM truck attempted to make a left-turning U-turn from the left lane around a car pulled over on the paved median.

However, the trucker forgot about the turning radius of his/her trailer and ended up crunching the stationary car!

We don't know how much professional truck driving experience this trucker had, but for full disclosure, when Vicki was in truck driver training school -- and as we reported on our CDL road test page -- she nearly hit a telephone pole because she hadn't yet gotten used to the length of the trailer behind the tractor.

Review our CDL road test page about doing the "serpentine" move. If necessary, you may want to review how to safely back up your truck and avoid right turn accidents.

When you are driving a big rig, remember that you're hauling a trailer (or trailers) behind you. The length of the towed unit(s) behind you matter when you're making turns.

Had the KLLM driver been watching his/her driver side mirror -- and pulled up far enough to make the U-turn -- he/she would not have caused this totally preventable accident.

Prevent this!

Earn More, Save More

Citing "a blog post by folks at the Bureau of Labor Statistics within the U.S. Department of Labor," an August 18, 2016 article stated, "One out of every six Americans killed on the job is a truck driver".

For truckers with families back home who rely solely upon the trucker's income, the trucker's death will be doubly hard to handle. Not only is the driver gone, but so is his/her paycheck.

What would your family do if you were killed on the job?

It is a great idea for truckers to build a second income -- that provides residual income -- to help offset (or perhaps replace) a trucker's trucking income.

Some folks think that it is "cute" to play pranks on others toward the end of October. Be on your guard year-round regarding those who attempt to disable your vehicle or remove something important.

Having locking fuel tank caps -- and certain other kinds of locks -- in place can help. Carrying selected spare parts and a good set of tools in your truck can also help.

To all of our readers who are professional truck drivers, we wish you safe travels and lots of money saving opportunities on the road!

Best regards,
Mike and Vicki Simons, Owners
