  • The Challenge Continues!

Even though Vicki Simons named November 8 "Low Clearance Awareness Day", the challenge is on to award a $50 Amazon.com gift card to the first professional truck driver who can document to her satisfaction that any GPS unit specifically configured for 13'6" commercial motor vehicles has routed him/her to go under any overpass that is shorter than 13'6" in the lanes of travel (not on the shoulders) within the continental USA.

Prevent This!

Two articles for your consideration this month both (sadly) involve fatalities at the hands of truckers...

According to this December 7, 2016 article, a father of eleven was killed by a trucker who was putting in eye drops, but supposedly not at the time of the crash. The trucker who hit the parked lorry faces jail time.

If you're going to be attending to medical or hygiene related matters, do them when you're safely parked. Don't risk an accident and a fatality.

Another December 7 article reveals that a truck driver "pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide ... related to ... a March 5, 2015 wreck ... which killed one motorist and injured [a] school bus driver."

It was apparent from the article that the trucker was tired. Although this trucker had a passenger who offered to drive, the trucker who caused the wreck had declined.

If you're tired, do not attempt to drive a commercial motor vehicle! Do not try to be a hero by overestimating your abilities.

Prevent these!

How will self-driving or autonomous trucks deal with bad winter weather?

Contributing article: http://bit.ly/2fGT8ni

Slippery ethics? No. Just flat out stealing.

Although the man was "uneasy" about "[padding] his income" because "his salary would be lower than what he had agreed to", "he billed clients for products he never purchased and instead pocketed the cash". He's been sentenced "to a year in federal prison and ordered to pay back $177,000 as part of a fraud scheme." Crime does not pay.

Earn More, Save More

A December 5, 2016 article stated, "According to a 2015 GOBankingRates survey of 5,000 adults, 62% of respondents said they have less than $1,000 in savings. More startling, 28% of those surveyed had no cash savings whatsoever."

Are you among them? How do you feel about that?

And how do you feel every winter, if you're forced to shut down your rig due to bad weather and wait out one or more storms?

If the wheels aren't turning, you're not earning, right?

A December 6, 2016, article refers to a "doozy" of a storm in North Dakota in which "Interstates ... are too dangerous to travel, or closed."

Theoretically, even if roads were clear, blowing snow and blizzard-like conditions would still make visibility very bad.

When you're shut down due to winter weather -- and you can't earn money from your trucking job -- you can still do something about growing your income in your off-duty hours!
