A number of articles this week -- including this one -- revealed that the tanker division of Stevens Transport "will permanently cease all business operations on or before October 15" and that "all of the division's [nearly 600] employees are being laid off permanently".
Ouch!
We hope that these truckers had at least a little time to prepare for this transition and that other nearby trucking companies that haul tankers will offer them good-paying jobs.
However, what if the truckers can't get work in their chosen field right away?
Perhaps some of the former tanker drivers will find other types of trucking work, such as hauling dry vans instead of tankers.
You're probably aware that a number of trucking companies have stopped operations or shut down so far this year.
It's always good to have something to fall back on, including an emergency fund and a second income.
