On October 1, 2020, Transportation Nation reported that "the NHTSA released a preview of 2019 data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and preliminary estimates for the first half of 2020," which included these facts:

• "A total of 892 large truck occupants perished in traffic accidents in 2019 which is two more than in 2018"; and
  
  
• "That number now marks the most since 1988 when 911 died."

Driving a truck professionally is a very honorable occupation that some truckers can never envision leaving.

Others wonder about less deadly alternatives that they can transition to while they're still in trucking, that will pay them well.
