As we've reported in the past, it is far better to keep one's truck in top order and not pour "money down the drain" on something safety related that was totally preventable.
Company truckers who sign a "condition of employment" that they will personally pay the fine for safety violations may not realize just how expensive some of those violations can be, especially if the trucks they are driving are put out of service and mechanics have to travel from a distance to fix/repair it/them.
Even with one's careful preparations, sometimes things can go wrong -- expensive things.
It's always wise to consider not having to rely on a single source of income to meet one's needs.
Consider learning how to earn a second income from the cab of your truck.
