• The Reward Associated With Low Clearance Awareness Day (November 8) Remains Unclaimed
  
  Back in 2016, Vicki Simons named November 8 as "Low Clearance Awareness Day" for the purpose of helping professional truck drivers avoid driving commercial motor vehicles under or into structures that are shorter that their vehicles.
  
  There are 5 tips on the page to help truckers avoid striking low clearances.
  
  The date November 8 (11/8) was selected in honor of the "11 foot 8" (11'8") railroad trestle in Durham, North Carolina, where many low clearance crashes have happened despite the installation of numerous warning devices.
  
  There have been many low clearance truck accidents since 2016, but as of yet, no one has documented to Vicki's satisfaction that his or her Commercial Motor Vehicle-specific GPS unit has routed him/her to go under any overpass that is shorter than 13'6" in the lanes of travel within the continental USA.
  
  Five years later, the offer of a reward for this is still unclaimed.
  
  
  
  
• Bad Weather Driving
  
  In some places around the USA, the weather has become very cold and winter precipitation can make traveling hard, treacherous, or downright impossible.
  
  Although there may be times when the FMCSA suspends the Hours of Service regulations in order to let certain truckers continue working, please carefully evaluate traveling conditions to make sure it is safe to drive before you head out.
  
  No load is worth your life.

A November 11, 2021, article states that:

• the "North Carolina Department of Transportation is replacing the bridge over Harmon Den Road at Exit 7 in Haywood County";
  
  
• "backups for more than eight miles" are expected;
  
  
• the "Tennessee Department of Transportation suggests drivers take I-81 to I-26 to avoid the area";
  
  
• "this route adds around 45 minutes to driving time"; and
  
  
• it's going to take to take 6 months to replace the bridge!

In our opinions, it will probably take truckers longer than 45 minutes to navigate the detour, especially since an 8-mile backup is expected.

There's no telling how many pick-ups and deliveries will be affected by this construction project -- not just by truckers in the area, but also by truckers traveling through the area.

Yes, you may try to time when you go through the area, but that is not always possible.

Before the end of the month, those of us in the USA will be celebrating Thanksgiving.

In order to help retailers and stores prepare for Christmas, this is the time of year when Christmas freight is moving and many OTR, long haul, and regional truckers will be working.

Since we have taken multiple Thanksgiving trips on the road as truckers, we understand what truckers on the road at this time of year are going through.

If you cannot be at home, please touch base with your home support team members sometime on Thanksgiving Day.

One option, which allows users to both hear and see each other, is the video conferencing Zoom cloud meeting app, which is available for both Android and iOS devices.

Just because you're out on the road does not mean that you can't enjoy a lovely Thanksgiving dinner right in your truck.

If you have a battery-connected inverter or APU in your truck, a crock pot or slow cooker, and a hot pot, you can create a meal complete with cooked turkey, sweet potato casserole, and the works.

You will need to do some advanced planning, but since you're already skilled as a trucker in making on-time pick-ups and deliveries, planning a fancier-than-usual meal in-truck should be a snap!

If your company offers -- and you plan to earn -- holiday pay for driving through some part of the Thanksgiving holiday, make sure you understand and abide by all of the rules.
