Specific Leg Strengthening Exercises To Step Up Into Truck Cab

By: Ellyn,

Health and Wellness IdeaMy husband is an OTR truck driver who would like me to accompany him on some road trips since I’m not working right now.

My problem are my weak legs! Climbing in and out of a truck cab is VERY difficult for me; the steps are so high for me (even at 5’9″ tall) that even with holding the hand bars, I cannot push up with my legs/pull myself up to the next step. I have to get hubby to literally “butt boost” me up the steps and into the cab! Needless to say, it’s very embarassing.

Are there any leg strengthening exercises I can do? Part of the problem is that I do have osteoarthritis in my knees, but I’m hoping some specific exercises may help me out.

Response from Vicki:

Hello, Ellyn,

Thank you for your question. You are very fortunate to have a husband who wants you to ride with him sometimes. It can be so exciting to be your trucker’s in-truck home support team.

We are pleased that you asked your question since there may be others in a similar situation. In fact, it would do all truckers good if they were to focus on their health and wellness, particularly when it comes to doing physical exercises.

However, since we have no background in that field, we are not qualified to answer your question directly. You may search online for “leg strengthening exercises” or “climbing exercises.”

Also, we open up the question for others who have experience in this field to comment with their favorite exercise to help you.

We hope this helps. BTW, we’re moving this question to our Health and Wellness page since it fits so well there.

We wish your trucker and you safe travels and lots of money saving opportunities on the road.

Best regards,
Vicki Simons
