Mike had the breakfast buffet. Vicki ordered a menu item, a grilled chicken salad.

Mike had fruit from the buffet (melon, grapes, apple, banana) and Vicki had salad vegetables (lettuce, grape tomatoes, purple cabbage).

Vicki had a grilled chicken salad.

Mike had biscuits as part of his breakfast.

Vicki had a grilled chicken salad and it arrived as ordered (with Ranch salad dressing on the side).

The reason why Vicki had a menu item was because there was no salad bar on the breakfast buffet. Her grilled chicken salad menu item was slightly more expensive than the breakfast buffet, but it was what she wanted to eat.
