You can make a shower from a (BRAND NEW) pump style pesticide sprayer. You remove the wand and add a kitchen dish-washing hose and mini plastic faucet with either a hose size adaptor from a ranch store or a machined adaptor if all else fails. You fill with a gallon of tap water, then add a small amount of boiling water and shake. Use a pulp thermometer to make sure it is around 105-110 degrees.

We had never heard of the book “How to Sail Around the World : Advice and Ideas for Voyaging Under Sail” until you mentioned it.

We can imagine how it might be useful for a sailor to use a pump sprayer to make a shower on a boat (where wet things are not a problem).
Have you ever used one of these inside your truck?
If so, how did you keep from spraying water everywhere?
Also, how did you contain the water that drips off?
We address taking a “sink bath” — using soap, water and a washcloth to freshen up inside a truck — on our showers page. There are the issues of warming up the clean water and disposing of the dirty water afterward (both of which we provide possible solutions for).
Of course, some drivers with custom tractors have showers built into their trucks. But we still wonder where they dump their dirty shower water. (Perhaps they drain it when they fuel at a truck stop?)

Update: Please be careful about pressuring a plastic pump sprayer.
I once had one of these devices explode and it was only by the grace of God that the side of the sprayer that blew was away from my body.
I could have been badly injured.

If a bathroom stall has a good drain, you could probably use it in a pinch. Just wear a bathing suit. I have heard of a shower curtain draiped into a tupperware chest as an in-cab shower solution with this set-up.

Interesting thought. I wonder how many retail establishments would let a professional truck driver come into a bathroom with a pesticide-like pump sprayer charged with water (soapy or not) to take a shower. It would be easier, we think, for the driver to just use a truck stop shower.
On the other hand, your idea of draping a shower curtain into a goodly sized tub (we envision a Rubbermaid Rough Neck-type tote) might work well — if only there was a good way to hang it in one’s truck. If you have an idea on how to hang it, please comment again.
