We welcome your comments, thoughts and feedback on the items of your choice below.

TDMST Weekly Round-Up

1. Regarding bridges, NYC boycott, outage, and scam:

Bridges

Before getting to the articles about bridges, first let me document that:

DAT TruckersEdge - Most Loads. Best Rates. Serving Owner-Operators Since 1978. 10% off your first 12 months. New customers only.

Given the ratings, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if more and more bridges collapsed over time!

NYC boycott

While a proposed boycott of truckers refusing to go to New York City may have started based on a support of Donald Trump, others don’t go to NYC for other reasons.

The last time Mike drove for a regional trucking company, he had the choice as to whether or not to go to New York City.

Here are some of the most recent articles about this:

Outage

Some people were greatly affected by the outage of AT&T’s network this past Thursday.

For truckers whose lives are impacted by communications connectivity, this was possibly a very bad day for conducting business.

Was your cell phone coverage or satellite communication cut off?

Were you unable to take on fuel for your truck?

If so, what did you do?

Please share through the form below your thoughts on this.

Scam

Be on your guard against this!

2. Regarding business, congestion pricing, economy, tolls, and vehicle transfer:

Business

Congestion pricing

There have been complaints about congestion pricing in the past.

Economy

Tolls

Vehicle transfer

Articles in this section have to do with buying or selling a truck.

3. Regarding containers, ports, and warning signs:

Containers

Ports

Warning signs

4. Regarding autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles, emissions, and fuel:

Autonomous vehicles

I most vehemently disagree with the operation of self-driving, autonomous, or driverless commercial motor vehicles on the same roads as the motoring public — but I share articles on this topic with our readers to help us stay current on the topic.

Electric vehicles

Before you buy an all-electric Commercial Motor Vehicle, please do your due diligence.

Emissions

Fuel

5. Regarding Convoy and technology:

Convoy

Sometimes, it looks like things are over when they are simply ready to be taken over and given another chance.

Technology

6. Regarding crashes, drugs, fatalities, and near miss:

Crashes

Please look through these articles to see if there is anything you can learn to help you prevent being involved in a similar crash.

Drugs

Never ever haul illegal drugs, no matter how big of a promised reward has been dangled in front of you.

Fatalities

We express our deep sympathy — and offer our condolences — to the families of those whose loved ones died in these crashes.

Can you learn anything from the articles below that would help prevent being involved in a fatal large truck crash?

Near miss

The video linked in the article just below shows that a truck driver hauling doubles in Western Australia decided to “gun it” over a set of train tracks rather than wait for the locomotive to pass.

Although nothing bad happened, this move is foolhardy in the extreme.

7. Regarding detention time study, health, inspections, insurance, and maintenance:

Detention time study

{Sigh!} We’ve been here before, haven’t we?

It’s like the powers-that-be love to “study” things, but never take positive action to eliminate problems.

We’ll see if this is another one of those times…

Health

Inspections

If you keep yourself and your rig in perpetual readiness for an inspection, you’ll never be caught off-guard.

Insurance

Maintenance

8. Regarding freight rejected, idling, and parking:

Freight rejected

Idling

ATRI publishes a compendium of current idling regulations by state.

If you object to an idling regulation, please contact your elected officials.

Parking

9. Regarding legal, politics, regulations, and speed limiters:

Legal

Politics

Regulations

Speed limiters

On February 21, 2024, I wrote an email to federal elected officials — using this form — to ask them to block the FMCSA’s ability to implement speed limiters on Commercial Motor Vehicles.

Please note that I stated that the FMCSA is an unconstitutional agency of the federal government — having no authority to exist under Article I, Section 8, of The Constitution of the United States — so they should not have the authority to implement these devices.

10. Regarding distracted driving, fatigued driving, fraud, theft, and violence:

Distracted driving

Fatigued driving

With no estimated time of when this crash happened — and no evidence stated in the article as to how law enforcement determined that this was a fatigued driving crash — I don’t know how this can be labeled as such.

Fraud

This is a heads-up to all truck driving school students that if you are “given the answers” while you’re taking a test, you may end up in legal hot water of some kind.

Don’t become a victim of this kind of fraud!

Theft

Do everything reasonable to help prevent theft from your person, your tractor, your trailer, or the freight on-board.

Violence

If you were held at gunpoint — but you did not have a gun to “even the odds” — how would you defend yourself?

11. Regarding hitchhiking, routing, and smuggling:

Hitchhiking

Having hitchhikers “hitch a ride” on the back of a big rig is becoming a bigger and bigger problem.

There are also various scams to try to hijack one’s vehicle (car or truck), so be on your guard.

You may want to consult your dispatcher or driver manager to learn what action is best for handling situations like these.

Routing

Always use a truckers atlas or Motor Carriers’ Road Atlas to route yourself and your big rig.

Smuggling

Never ever haul people made in the image of God as if they were cattle or cargo, no matter how much you’ve been promised.

12. Regarding awards, recognition, and skills:

Awards

We congratulate this trucker for his awesome achievement of driving safely for 4 million miles!

Recognition

We also recognize those who helped their fellow human beings in a time of need.

Skills

We also recognize and applaud truckers with great skills, like the one in this article:

My husband Mike and I wish you — and all professional truck drivers — safe travels and lots of money saving opportunities on the road.
