TDMST Weekly Round-Up

1. Regarding Future, Language, Top 10, and Weather:

At this time of year, two types of articles are common:

DAT TruckersEdge - Most Loads. Best Rates. Serving Owner-Operators Since 1978. 10% off your first 12 months. New customers only.

  • A recap of some of the most important or most newsworthy or most read articles of the year, sometimes done in a “Top 10” format with a countdown; and
  • A number of forecasts or prognostications or predictions of the future regarding what the upcoming new year will hold, possibly synthesized from analysis of the current economy.

Those things having been stated, I will share a few posts from this website that may help you with year-end/year-start matters.

Now for the articles…

2. Regarding Autonomous vehicles, Electric vehicles, Fuel, and Idling:

Autonomous vehicles

I most definitely oppose the operation of autonomous, driverless, or self-driving commercial motor vehicles on the same roads as the motoring public — but I share articles on this topic with our readers to help us stay current on the topic.

Electric vehicles

Before you buy an all-electric Commercial Motor Vehicle, please do your due diligence by asking some questions and getting answers.

Fuel

Idling

You may wish to review the 9-post series on idling on this site.

3. Regarding Alcohol, Crashes, Drugs, Fatalities, Fatigue, Fraud, Scam, and Theft:

Alcohol

Never ever consume alcohol — or use an alcohol-containing product (such as mouthwash) — before beginning to drive a commercial motor vehicle!

Crashes

Please look through these articles to see if there is anything you can learn to help you prevent being involved in a similar crash.

Drugs

Never ever haul or take illegal drugs.

Fatalities

I express my deep sympathy — and offer my condolences — to the families of those whose loved ones died in these crashes.

Can you learn anything from the articles below that would help prevent being involved in a fatal large truck crash?

Fatigue

One source says: “Drowsy driving and fatigued driving are essentially the same thing, often used interchangeably to describe operating a vehicle while impaired by sleepiness or exhaustion, which slows reaction time, impairs judgment, and reduces awareness, making it as dangerous as drunk driving.”

For your convenience, here’s a post on this site on this topic:

Drowsy Driving: Dangers, Statistics, and No Substitutes

Fraud

Never attempt to deceive, misrepresent something, intentionally pervert the truth, or pretend to be someone else for the purpose of trying to get something valuable.

Scam

Please be aware of and speak out against these and other types of scams that can impact truckers and trucking companies.

Theft

Never take something that doesn’t belong to you unless you have permission from the owner.

With as much surveillance equipment as is in place in the 21st century, it’s only a matter of time before the thieves are apprehended.

4. Regarding Ban, Bridges, Business, Ports, and Roads:

Ban

Bridges

The second article in this section quotes the state’s turnpike authority Executive Direction, who addressed the “state’s size and weights permitting office to ensure that all travelers are safe on our roadways and that our infrastructure remains undamaged by these careless acts.”

Tariffs

For a much better and more thorough explanation about the problems with Trump-issued tariffs, please search for the word “tariffs” in Peggy Hall’s Substack archive.

UCR Fee

Quoting this article:

OOIDA members are again being hit with alarming emails and notices from third-party UCR vendors warning that their UCR fees are overdue. In many cases, the warnings are bogus, and the fees have already been paid.

So, please be on your guard.

7. Regarding Border, Brokers, Exports, and Last Mile:

8. Regarding APU, ATA, HOS, and Politics:

9. Regarding Inspections, Operations, Parking, and Safety:

Inspections

If you keep yourself and your rig in perpetual readiness for an inspection, you’ll never be caught off-guard.

Operations

The first article in this section proves once again that truckers are not responsible for the actions of impatient four-wheelers.

The second article in this section described a strong drawback to driverless vehicles being operated when a power outage occurs!

12. Regarding Awards, Recognition, and Year End Blessing:

Awards

Congratulations to the finalists in this contest.

Recognition

Thank you to everyone who helped out their fellow human beings in a time of need, whether it was the trucker doing the helping or the trucker being helped.

Year End Blessing

As we end 2025 and enter 2026, may the Lord grant you wisdom, knowledge, understanding, wellness, purpose, abundance, discernment, and courage to do all that He has called you to do!

I wish you — and all professional truck drivers — safe travels and lots of money saving opportunities on the road.
