TDMST Weekly Round-Up 2026.06.06

TDMST Weekly Round-Up 2026.06.06 is the trucking commentary on news affecting professional truck drivers for the week ending June 6, 2026, written by Vicki Simons.

I welcome your comments, thoughts and feedback on the items of your choice below.

TDMST Weekly Round-Up

1. Regarding Motus and Waiver:

Motus

The article in this section reads, in part:

DAT TruckersEdge - Most Loads. Best Rates. Serving Owner-Operators Since 1978. 10% off your first 12 months. New customers only.

Motus is a new single entry point for a wide variety of interactions with registration systems and other FMCSA tools needed by the trucking community. It launched May 14.

But complaints and comments in social media have quickly made it clear the rollout has not been going well. And in the past week, the agency responded with its two statements.

Well, I can’t say I’m surprised.

How many other government-based “solutions” for the trucking industry have rolled out well?

I would love to hear from professional truck drivers as to how much money and time MOTUS will save them.

Please comment through the form below.

Waiver

Three of the four articles in this section are about waivers to the Hours of Service (HOS) regulation due to hauling fertilizer.

The author of the “Health Ranger” channel on Telegram predicted quite some time back that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz would lead to fertilizer shortages — and even a global food shortage.

A March 5, 2026, article is entitled:

The Window Is Closing: How the Iran Conflict Just Unleashed a Global Famine Trigger.

I don’t see this situation being resolved any time soon, and it was all started by an illegal, immoral, and unconstitutional war of aggression started by President Trump against Iran.

Be that as it may, to me, allowing any kind of “waiver” regarding the Hours of Service regulation is a slippery slope that can lead to problems.

2. Regarding Fuel, Iran, and Oil:

Fuel

So that you can track the price of fuel:

In an effort to save as much fuel as possible, here are a few of the articles on this site dealing with aerodynamics:

Now this week’s articles on this topic:

Iran

Oil

3. Regarding Legal and Politics:

Legal

The way that the third article in this section is written, I am having a hard time understanding why the truck driver was charged with homicide.

Just be aware that all professional truck drivers face similar situations every day.

Politics

4. Regarding Border, Canada, Canada – USMCA, DACA, and Language:

Border

Canada

Canada – USMCA

A March 20, 2019, article says:

The USMCA, which is the new incarnation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), presents crucial constitutional issues concerning the Appointments Clause, the jurisdiction of the federal courts, due process and jury trial rights.

I’m sure they are not the only organization making that point.

Just saying…

DACA

The second article in this section says:

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) published an application for exemption from a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipient who wants to obtain and hold a Class B passenger-vehicle Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

The article describes the DACA recipient’s case.

The article further states: “FMCSA will accept public comment on the exemption request after it is published in the Federal Register on June 2.”

We are now past June 2, but I’m not sure where the comments will be accepted.

I searched Regulations.gov but did not find it.

Feedback through the form below? Thanks.

Language

This is part of “General qualifications of drivers [who drive a commercial motor vehicle]” 49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2):

Can read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records;

Here are at least some of this week’s articles on this topic:

5. Regarding Alcohol, Crashes, Cybercrime, Fatalities, Fraud, Injury, Scam, Smuggling, Theft, and Violations:

Alcohol

Never ever consume alcohol — or use an alcohol-containing product (such as mouthwash) — before beginning to drive a commercial motor vehicle!

Crashes

Please look through these articles to see if there is anything you can learn to help you prevent being involved in a similar crash.

Cybercrime

The second article in this section opens with this:

Organizations are encouraged to anonymously report freight fraud, cargo crime, and cyber threats while gaining visibility into incidents reported across the transportation sector.

Farther down in that article, we read:

“The Threat Report Portal, at www.nmftathreatportal.com, allows companies to share information about incidents and suspicious activity and learn from one another’s experiences.”

Fatalities

I express my deep sympathy — and offer my condolences — to the families of those whose loved ones died.

Can you learn anything from the articles below that would help prevent being involved in a fatal large truck crash?

Fraud

Never attempt to deceive, misrepresent something, intentionally pervert the truth, or pretend to be someone else for the purpose of trying to get something valuable.

Injury

May the Lord heal these people!

Scam

Please be aware of and speak out against these and other types of scams that can impact truckers and trucking companies.

Smuggling

Never ever transport people made in the image of God as if they were cattle or cargo — no matter how large of an incentive you’ve been offered.

Theft

Never take something that doesn’t belong to you unless you have permission from the owner.

With as much surveillance equipment as is in place in the 21st century, it’s only a matter of time before the thieves are apprehended.

Violations

A lot of violations are found during truck inspections while others are spotted on the road.

Make it your aim as a trucker to do everything in compliance with the law and regulations — even if your trucking company is trying to get you to compromise.

6. Regarding Autonomous Vehicles, Electric Vehicles, and Emissions:

Autonomous Vehicles

I totally oppose the operation of autonomous, driverless, or self-driving commercial motor vehicles on the same roads as the motoring public — but I share articles on this topic with my readers to help us stay current on the topic.

Electric Vehicles

It could be that with the price of fuel being so high right now, that truckers and trucking companies are looking at alternatives.

Before you buy an all-electric Commercial Motor Vehicle, please do your due diligence by asking some questions and getting answers.

Emissions

7. Regarding Brokers, Business, Chameleon Carriers, Parasite, Shipping, and UPS:

Brokers

Business

Chameleon Carriers

For background on chameleon carriers, please read:

The Anatomy of a Chameleon Carrier Empire. How They Build It.

Parasite

This is the first time that I’ve ever read about a parasite affecting cattle as it affects the trucking industry.

Shipping

UPS

8. Regarding Bypass, Economy, Employment, Pay, Rates, Retention, Tariffs, Taxes, and Trade:

Bypass

Economy

Employment

Note that the word in title of the second article in this section should read “bankruptcy” not “backruptcy”. Just saying.

Pay

In the first article in this section, the agency in charge of their “Spring 2026 Truck Driver Survey” released the results.

The president said: “Drivers are evaluating carriers differently today. Pay still matters, but consistency, communication, respect, and home time are now major deciding factors. Fleets that move quickly, communicate clearly, and deliver on promises will have a major recruiting advantage.”

The other 5 articles in this section all address pay.

Rates

Retention

Tariffs

For a much better and more thorough explanation about the problems with Trump-issued tariffs, please search for the word “tariffs” in Peggy Hall’s Substack archive.

There’s also a short video on Telegram with this description:

Peter Schiff on Trump’s punitive tariffs against U.S. allies and why all tariffs are paid by the American people, not foreign manufacturers

Now for the articles in this section…

Taxes

Trade

9. Regarding Inspections, Last Mile, Operations, Parking, Ports, and Training:

Inspections

If you keep yourself and your rig in perpetual readiness for an inspection, you’ll never be caught off-guard.

Last Mile

One overview says:

In the trucking and logistics industry, the “last mile” is the final leg of a supply chain journey. It describes the physical movement of freight or parcels from a local fulfillment center or transportation hub directly to the end customer’s doorstep or business.

The overview also said that there are 3 stages of freight:

First Mile, Middle Mile, and Last Mile.

I seriously wonder if the powers-that-be plan to use humans for the “first mile” and “last mile” because they plan for autonomous vehicles to take care of all of the “middle miles”.

If so, I think that will tear the guts out of the trucking industry as far as truckers being paid by the mile is concerned.

Operations

Be aware of the potential to be “brake checked”.

Parking

Ports

Training

10. Regarding Safety, Speed Limit, Supply Chain, Technology, and Tires:

Safety

Speed Limit

Supply Chain

Technology

Tires

The caption under the photo published with this article reads:

Underinflation is the leading cause of premature tire wear and blowouts. There are plenty of good reasons, and nearly a thousand dollars a piece, to pay close attention to inflation pressure.

11. Regarding ATRI, Truckers, and Trucking:

ATRI

The second article in this section says:

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) is conducting a follow-up survey for motor carriers and truck drivers on adoption levels and user perspectives for onboard safety technologies.

Feel free to respond!

Truckers

I wish other states viewed truckers as valuable!

Trucking

12. Regarding Awards, Championship, and Recognition:

Awards

Congratulations to Ted Wachna, a “37-year trucking veteran with more than 3.6 million accident-free miles (5.76 million km)” and who “has been named the 2026 MTA-Volvo Trucks Canada Driver of the Year for Manitoba”!

Championship

Congratulations to all professional truck drivers who qualified for and competed in a trucking championship, including those who won!

Recognition

Thank you to this trucker who helped out his fellow human being in a time of need!

BTW, based on the location, it seems that this situation happened practically in my back yard!

I wish you — and all professional truck drivers — safe travels and lots of money saving opportunities on the road.
