Organization And Space

Ask Your Truck Drivers Money Saving Questions HereHello I am a young lady embarking on this truck driving adventure with my boyfriend. He has a Studio Sleeper in his Kenworth and I am trying to think of crafty ways to increase that space. You seem to have so many wonderful ideas about other subjects that I have took into consideration already. Just wondering if you had any ideas. Thanks so much.

Response from Vicki:

Hello and thanks for asking your question.

We have addressed the issue of packing in a number of places:

1. The Packing List section of our site has lots of information, including three Free Downloads that list what we have packed for job, food and equipment, and personal reasons.

2. I responded to another reader’s question about how much to pack in a truck on a Pack Clothes page.

3. I wrote an article for another website that addresses the issue of living in a tiny space: Semi-Tractor Truck Living.

4. We also addressed the issue of Repurposing Items for Better Use and Functionality in Semi Tractors. You may see on the page how we attempted to maximize the room in Mike’s truck through various means, some of which worked and some of which didn’t work as well as we’d hoped.

Although you can organize the small space in a semi tractor very well, bear in mind that any time you share a small space with someone (even someone you love very much), there may be times when one or both of you “feel” cramped and just want to get out of the truck. We provide some resources on our Home Support Team page.

I trust that this is helpful to you. When you set up your “home on wheels,” please write back to let us know how it is working for you.

If you will when you write back, please provide some photos to show us how you organized your space. As OTR drivers, Mike and I have only ever lived in Freightliners, so we don’t know how things would be set up inside a Kenworth. It would be valuable to all of our readers if you can comment on this and show it with pictures. Thanks in advance.

Mike and I wish you safe travels and lots of money saving opportunities on the road.

Best regards,
Vicki Simons
